THE WORLD AROUND U/S
Facing a worldly crisis in 2020, so much outrage erupted because of a pandemic that completely obliterated the lively hood of billions of people around the world. As an American, we have experienced the shutdown of the economy that would deem critical to businesses and dreams that suddenly shattered at a blink of an eye. With many Americans filing for unemployment, quarantine pushed with respect to state government officials policies, a scare of an invisible force thought up to be life threatening and predicted to cause deaths of up to millions or people around the world, and now America faces a more evil force that distracted these current events.
For centuries, Americans have fought for their rights and justices due to being mistreated based off the color of their skin. The privilege of being born with a certain pigment on their skin, paved way for the treatment of acceptance and appearing as non threatening to others of that same pigment. As we know the elephant in the room for this particular topic, Blacks in America have continually protested either peacefully or aggressively for their rights and humane justice. The mistreatment of this community by police brutality has reached a tipping point after the death of George Floyd, stirred an outrage that began as peaceful protests to an erratic behavior of rioting and looting throughout Americas biggest cities. As the rest of the world tunes in, observing the devastation that’s currently happening in a first world nation, pain is still carrying on from the COVID-19 pandemic.

To be experiencing these worldly events, I can’t help but to be in shock that I, as a millennial, would be witnessing in my lifetime the tragedies and horrors that will hold place in history as we hopefully move forward to a future that looks for progression and human rights of freedom from despair. Here in America, there are Constitutional Rights that allow freedoms to natural citizens of opportunity. This particular piece of land on this planet is really one of the very few places that most immigrants would sacrifice their lives to be a citizen of. Being able to practice freedom, make opportunities for themselves, and to have generations of offspring that would have these same rights, is but a privilege that billions of other humans don’t have.
Denying Americans of their freedoms and rights is justice worth fighting for. The outrage of police brutality witnessed by people around the world gives hope that we can still hold hands together despite a virus that shut down the world. To finally stick up for those that have been mistreated and also lost their own life because of it, is an amazing act in support for one another. However, because of the riots and looting, to cause destruction of homes, businesses, and even innocent bystanders, is not permitted nor an acceptable method to voice ones opinion. Demonstrating peace and standing together for the mistreatment of others, is a righteous way of moving forward. To be living on the land of the free, can suddenly take us like a carpet slipped right underneath us, and make us fall right on our ass.
The president calls out for National Guards and major metropolitan areas to help aid the police force to control mobs of protesters. I can’t imagine a place I call home that will strip us away from our human rights, just like what the Chinese government is doing to the citizens of Hong Kong. Although we’re an ocean apart, we’re standing for our freedoms and rights. It is a noble sacrifice for these protesters to represent those that have lost their lives by the community that is supposed to help and guard the citizens of the United States, not harm them and beat them like wild animals.
To be hopeful and optimistic, I would love to be able to experience a world we can live in peace. To not worry about other governing powers that take advantage of the masses. Sure there are millions of other problems, there is always a step toward progression that starts with a voice. The empowerment and force that America is able to demonstrate is our Constitutional Right as our First Amendment. For me to be able to voice my opinion through this platform is a privilege that I have and if I were born anywhere else in the world, perhaps my own beliefs and opinions will never be heard, all because of a governing power that doesn’t allow that right. I hope for the safety of others, especially for those that are affected by these tragedies, to be in virtue of a prosperous life. To be able to live their lives and seek for better opportunity, is a right as natural and unnatural citizens of America.
Let us continue to thrive and be peaceful amongst others.
